課程概述

This course is designed as an intensive training program for students to become effective ESL/EFL teachers. It provides students both theoretical principles and practical aspects for English teaching, particularly for course designs and teaching skills. Specifically, students will learn methods and techniques of English teaching and evaluation and design of teaching activities and materials. Students will also develop their professions through teaching demonstration, school visits, and classroom observation.  

課程目標
本課程的目標在提升學生的核心能力如下: (1)培養課程、教學與評量之知能,(2) 整合英語文學科知識與教育理論之實踐能力,(3)了解現行公私立中學英文科教學現況與教育體制與理念,(4)具備任教學科專業之知能。進一步說明如下:
This course is intended to prepare students to be effective high school English teachers. Specific course objectives include: (1) developing teaching skills and professional knowledge concerning course and teaching material designs, teaching methods, lesson planning, and language testing and assessment, (2) increasing practice and experience in classroom teaching, presentation, and observation, (3) understanding current EFL programs provided by public and private high schools, and (4) improving proficiency in classroom instruction and presentation.
 
課程要求
1. Cooperate with your group members and/or work individually to prepare and demonstrate a 10-15 minutes teaching (no longer than 15 minutes).
2. Choose any lesson you prefer or work on an assigned lesson.
3. Hand in your lesson plan and bring seventeen hard copies of your lesson plan to class.
4. Evaluate your classmates’ teaching demonstration and take notes during the presentation.
5. Dress formally and properly for your demo or student teaching and school visits.
6. Come to class on time.
* If you are 10 (or longer) minutes late for class, you’ll be marked “late” on the attendance sheet.
(845f) 0.5 point off from your final course grade
* If you are 30 (or longer) minutes late for class, you’ll be marked “absent” on the attendance sheet.
(845f) 3 points off from your final course grade
* If you are marked “absent” five (or more) times, you will not pass this course.
7. NEVER be late for or absent from your teaching or school visits.
8. Finish weekly homework and preview the assigned readings before class.
9. Observe teaching demonstrations at four high schools.
10. Read assigned reading and complete required assignments before class. Late papers/assignments are unacceptable. No credit will be awarded to papers/assignments coming in one (or longer) week late.
11. Keep your cell phone off during the class meeting or school visit.
